Through a matching gift program, Manulife and its Kitchener-Waterloo employees recently donated more than $280,000 to the local United Way campaign. As a result, the Company received the Chair's Award for Best Overall Campaign for 1998.
Later that year, Manulife gained further recognition with the presentation of the Corporate Citizen Award at the Waterloo Region Business Achievements gala held in Kitchener.
Health care continues to benefit greatly from Manulife's charitable efforts. The Company has raised more than $825,000 for heart health through its annual recreational cycling event, the Manulife Ride for Heart. Proceeds from the ride are helping to support the new St. Mary's Regional Cardiac Centre.
Another local health care facility to benefit from the hard work and generosity of Manulife employees is the HopeSpring Cancer Support Centre, which recently received a cheque for $76,000. The money was raised through Manulife's annual Drive for Hope golf tournament.
Manulife is also committed to the cultural and intellectual growth of Canadian communities, which is why the company is a proud and generous supporter of the arts. Locally, Manulife has sponsored events at the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery, the Uptown Waterloo Jazz Festival, Grand River ConservationAuthority "Grand Champions" campaign and Christkindl Market.
